March 25, 201610 yr I thought that I’d shares some images of these simple yet superbly executed antique wrought iron candlesticks. 25 ½ inches high. Age and country of origin unknown. The shafts of triangular cross section taper from 1 ¼ to 1 1/8 inches and are slightly convex across their faces. About two inches above the collars one can make out seems suggesting that the two ends were worked separately and then joined. The detailing of the feet and heart shaped terminals of the candle cup supports are particularly nice. Extensive file work is visible beneath the shaft’s patina. Simple yet majestic.
March 26, 201610 yr Author Sorry - Meant to submit these to the general discussion section and can't figure out how to edit them over there.
March 26, 201610 yr Nice work. A 3 cornered collar...wow! Looks like a lot of careful measuring and calculation. An old smith told me one time with a wink of the eye, " It's easy to make the first one; now I have to make another one just like it."
March 27, 201610 yr Oh my goodness. I might be able to winkle out the candle stick after enough tries, I have a 120* V swage on my block but I'd probably have to cheat the collar. Funny you should say that Frank, I usually consider students to be at an intermediate level when they can make sets of near identical pieces. Frosty The Lucky.
