flemish
How tall is a tire hammer? I have a short shop and was wondering if I could get one to fit. My shop is 7 ft and i am 6'3" and don't want to lower the anvil to much. Thanks, Flemish
01tundra
The one I was around this weekend was a 50 lb. hammer based on Clay Spencer's plans and I'd guess it at somewhere around 7' tall at its highest point.
ironartforge
My 50 lb Clay Spencer tire hammer is 6'9" to the top of the tire. Conversely the 75 lb Iron Kiss is 6'3" and the 50 lb Little Giant is 5'11". This is measured from the base of the hammer. I do like my anvils a little high so all of my hammers are on pedestals of some height to bring them to a comfortable working level. With my 12' ceilings a few extra inches doesn't matter... The anvil on the tire hammer is 38 1/2"
flemish
Thanks Tundra and Ironart. I guess i have some thinking to do to figure this out. I use a Little Giant from time to time and it is on some about 5" timbers and it is too low to use for long forging sessions and be just right. Might have to just do what I can do. Thanks again Ed
