September 27, 201411 yr I've worn out several 2 way 3 port pilot valves on my Kinyon hammer. Theses are the small, cheap ones with stamped sheet metal pivot arms. Ebay has industrial quality 4 way 5 port valves. Can they be used to function as a 2 way 3 port valve and if so, what would the configuration be? I tried to educate myself on this question but got a headache instead............Thanks
September 27, 201411 yr Is that the small 'shuttle'valve mounted up on the ram with the ramp that pushes the switch in and out? If so, I've been involved with 2 cases of failure. Both times, the valve was mounted too close to the ramp, and the whole body was distorting, until they failed. I can't answer your question, but if you remake the mounting bracket to where it only gets action enough to work, the valve you have been using will last a long time. mike
September 28, 201411 yr Author Yep, been there, done that early on. What I think is happening is the roller arm over extends and flops down over the edge of the ram and then slams into the valve body. Going to profile the ramp today and see if that helps. Keith
October 14, 201411 yr Check with E-Motion in Eugene Oregon. They fixed me up with a steel body shuttle valve that will handle the air flow needed. It is a glandless valve that has no O rings.
October 15, 201411 yr I bought a new roller valve a couple years ago from granger. Been going strong, no problems! My hammer has a small 45 degree angle ground out of the corner where the head moves up and contacts the roller valve.
October 15, 201411 yr Backwoods Blacksmith can you provide the name of the valve and some of its descriptive particulars, please?
