Welsh lad from the UK living in the South of Brazil, in a small city called Tubarao. Starting out from scratch, not a single tool (yet). Learning to find goodies is hard in Portuguese lol. I've spent the last few days reading my way through old forum entries. I'm having to learn many new things here. The language is difficult for me at least, but as you say Frosty, learning a little is helping gather goodies and tools. Welsh is a lot easier to me at least (though I'm not that good with that one either lol). Portuguese .... português é muito difícil. I'm in a small city called Tubarao. My wife's Brazilian, so I've ended up here. There seems to be a wide variety of small machine shops and engineering works here, so I'm hoping to make some friends that I can trade skills with. My wife is an English teacher, which appears to have some benefits. I helped one of her students recently and in return just landed three 18" pieces of rail to make an anvil (the student is a manger for he local rail company). This site is huge and has an amazing wealth of both skilled people and information. Very happy to be part of it. Which part of Brazil are you in EduBacha? I'd love to meet up with any smiths out here. On the to "to do" list is creating a workshop, making or finding tools and then hopefully making some knives etc. Shame I can't pack the workshop at home and bring he tools here (most would be too heavy or cost a fortune to ship). My father was a blacksmith in a coal mine in South Wales and later (after some time in the RN) went on to be a fabricator, serving the coal industry. I'm rescuing his hammers when I'm back in the UK in December :) wife can moan, but suitcase space is allocated ;) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The problem I seem to have is convincing my wife to use Portuguese around me. She prefers English when we are home. It makes it easy to communicate, but harder to learn the language.
