EWCTool
Today The Williams White power hammer arrived! It is a 90 pound hammer. I have an electric motor for it, but am still debating about whether to get three phase to the shop or just get a Honda or Briggs and Stratton engine to run it. The other plan under construction is the foundation. Just thought I would share. E.

njanvilman
Why do you need three-phase? I assume you have power to the shop, so why not just a single phase motor? The hammer does not appear to be that big. Depending on the size, a 1.5 hp - 3 hp single phase should do. Running a gas engine is noisy, and a bit of a pain to have to start each time you want to use the hammer. And you will have the problem of exhausting the fumes. So much easier just to throw a switch. EWCTool
It really does look kind of small. I think the angle and the camera lens took off some pounds. Here is a picture of me next to the hammer. For reference I'm 6' 3". I'm with you on the electric motor, that and several other factors are being worked out. Ill keep things posted. E. Lamey
ide run a 3 to 5 hp motor, you can find them if you look hard in lower rpms, even in single phase. This would keep you from having to run a jack shaft set up etc....
humphreymachine
Really nice and kind of different with the circular base. Where was that manufacturer located? We love lots of photos!
Kevin W
Purdy Hammer. If I could get 3 phase to my shop I would but it's not an option here. The reason being all the deals I see on used 3 phase equipment.
peacock
Build yourself a big rotary phase converter. I built mine 20+ years a go. Less than $100 then but it has saved me thousand on equipment and motors. Mine is made from a 15 hp motor can run 71/2 hp. if I turn on my lathes 3 hp I can run a 10 hp. Ed_
Nice hammer ! Good score. Remarkably similar to the one I just bought. http://yakiba.com/Power_Hammers.htm I plan to set mine up to run with a Baldor 5 hp motor. Good luck with it.
