October 13, 201312 yr I've made a few of these when I have down time at work I built this one for a friend during my breaks. Just wanted your opinions. Everything is cut from .125 a-36 plate and the stem is .375 rod. I used a torch to heat the pieces and hammered the shape of the vise one at a time welding them together with L-56 hard wire. Bead blasted everything and then buffed and reheated to get the color. The engraving was done with a diamond bit and die grinder. The gold detailing was done with brass rod then clear coated.
October 13, 201312 yr Nice design style. I never thought about doing the leaves that way. Lot's of little touches that make it your own. Your friend will love it! Dave
October 16, 201312 yr Author Thanks. I've been looking in to finding a better way to make then and I'm trying a different style this time so we'll see how this next one turns out.
October 16, 201312 yr Greetings TJ, I love originality.. 1/8 plate is tough to work... Super finish.... Forge on and make beautiful things. Jim
October 17, 201312 yr Author This is the other style I'm trying, it's not done yet but thought I would show the progress.
October 18, 201312 yr TJ, how are you getting such smooth compound curves on the edges? Been trying to make a hand die tool to forge them but the two curves at once in my hangup:) Dave
October 18, 201312 yr Like many people here we surely would like to see some more detailed step-by-step pics of the creation. I like the unusual leaf design as well as the bottom detail of the bloom. And some would like to see hoe to make the compound rounded petals..please.Carry on
