June 8, 201313 yr really nice shape, That hot head looks like it was really putting out some serious heat. Looks like it is about 3 LB??? What steel did you make it out of?
June 8, 201313 yr Author thanks I have some stuff ill change on the next one,it weighs 2.5lbs.I forged it from a wrist pin out of a cummins diesel, they harden nicely
June 9, 201313 yr Looks like a great short hammer head! Now its time to forge a 6 - 7 pound one for striking and have Royce strike for you next time. My arm hurts just thinking about forging a hammer by hand again.
June 11, 201313 yr Author thanks for the compliments, the hammer works great and im happy with it except for I got the eye punched a little bit off center. Mac I have a 2.25in billet of 1045 but idk if that is big enough,as to forging the hammer by hand I really didn't mind it as long as I worked it HOT!! thanks rockstar here is the hammer I used
June 11, 201313 yr Thanks for posting the picture. It took quite a bit of work no doubt. Your hammers are reproducing!
June 11, 201313 yr WOW! A breeder hammer, I have often heard them described otherwise but "breeder hammer" will do for this forum.
