March 22, 201313 yr Hello. My bride picked me up another anvil while I was out of town. I would appreciate your help identifying it. It is a 200# and has a W cast into an inverted triangle.
March 22, 201313 yr That would be a anvil manufactured by West, Made in Cleveland, OH... High Quality Cast Vanadium Steel...
March 22, 201313 yr Author Thank you for the quick response. This thing dose not look like it has been hit at all. Having second thoughts about my Hay Budden now.
March 22, 201313 yr West anvils are top quality and comparable to any other really excellent anvils. They also draw big prices when they are on the market. Matchless antiques has had a few on Ebay in the past.
March 22, 201313 yr Author Wow. Good to know. I got it for about half of what I gave for the Hay Budden, and it's 45 pounds heavier.Thanks.
March 22, 201313 yr Author Do you know if the anvils were painted from the factory? I ask because this anvil looks like it would have a factory coating on it. It looks like it was bought and "never" used. Thanks again.
March 22, 201313 yr AIA makes no reference to any coating, but who knows... It's more than likely lead paint, so take necessary precautions if you decide to remove it...
March 28, 201313 yr I have a West, but my logo is different. Light blue paint (really faded) on mine, not sure if its factory paint or not. I've attached some pics of my 200lbs west, does yours look similar?
