MJennings
A friend of mine has a Trenton anvil that has been in his family for many years. He is trying to determine the age and worth of the anvil. I have attached some photos of the anvil. Stamped on the front foot is the weight of 107 and a serial number which I think is A71847. Hopefully with the photos and serial number someone can help. Any comments are welcome. Thanks in advance.
rustyanchor
The S/N is a 1907 date according to AIA. Looks to be in very nice shape, your location and the availibility of anvils in your area can affect values, but $2-3 a pound seems to be the going rate. It may pull more because of the condition. VaughnT
That anvil is almost-new condition from the picture. Lighter anvils go for a higher price than heavy ones because they're more mobile. Having said that, I wouldn't hesitate to pay $2 for her. $3/lb would certainly be fair depending on the actual location and condition. $4/lb isn't unheard of, or unwarranted. The condition is great and the weight is right. Should be an easy sell.
Fatfudd
It would be nice if you indicated where you are located. I bet you would have some willing buyers if they knew where you are?
MJennings
Thanks for all of the help. The anvil is located in the far southern tip of Illinois close to the small town of Eddyville.
