knots Posted March 5, 2013 Share Posted March 5, 2013 Looks like a nice serviceable anvil. Good price. I wouldn't worry about the side clip horn. From what I can see it was arc welded on. ThomasPowers Posted March 5, 2013 Share Posted March 5, 2013 Looks like an old english style---thick waist and sharp feet. Face looks decent. It's well worth the price if it passes the bounce test. The small side horn was often seen on carriage builders anvils for making clips. As it was originally forge welded on it may have fallen prey to a missed heavy hammer strike. 101 H-B Posted March 6, 2013 Share Posted March 6, 2013 The anvil is a William Foster, picture 8 in the listing show the side with some letter of the name visible what looks like 1848 (Foster dated them).
