monkeyboy
here is a roughed in blade cut from a lawnmower blade. i will narrow down the stick tang and re-profile the blade then start on the grind. this particular piece of steel seems to be very tough, hard stuff. hope it is good steel. buzz meant to post a photo. argh

ThomasPowers
How do you plan to heat treat it?
monkeyboy
i am not over heating the areas where i am grinding , so i am not planning on any heat treat, yet. but, if it needs it i'll fire up some coals. buzz
monkeyboy
i am starting to understand something here. these mower blades are hard steel. takes some effort to grind away to pattern and then quite a bit of sanding to take out grinding marks. but, results seem to be good. this blade i've been working on has been sharpened and is a pretty good cutting tool. time to start the handle process. maybe a brass guard and some nice wood and antler for handle material. choices are many. buzz rough blade surface. needs more finish sanding. argh.
