ciladog
Here is a video on how to make a fast swage block to use in a power hammer or press to make hardies for the anvil. Once you make the block the hardy is just minutes away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCOntxLyV_s
VaughnT
Very neat idea! I just happened to have some 1" stock left over from my anvil stand build.....

ciladog
Very, very good. Thanks. Thanks John but this is not rocket science. Just a fast way to make a swage block to forge hardies. I'm not a purest. I look for the fasest easiest way to get the job done with the least amount of effort expended. If I have a power hammer and a press why would I stand at the anvil and upset the piece of 4140 with a sledge?
Sam Salvati
Very cool Craig!
Francis Trez Cole
nicely done. it would help you if your anvil was more solid (did not wiggle a round).
VaughnT
What I really like is that it can very easily be adapted to use on an anvil for those folks that don't have a press or power hammer.
humphreymachine
Great idea. I’m really digging the press as well. I guess I need to start following that section of the forum. A great alternative to a large power hammer for some uses for us home shop guys who are trying our best not to irritate the neighbors. Can you share a shot of your press? humphreymachine
Very nicely built! Thank you for posting. What HP motor does it require to run a press of that size?
ciladog
Very nicely built! Thank you for posting. What HP motor does it require to run a press of that size? Well that depends on your pump and how fast you want the ram to move. I chose a 3HP motor to keep electrical consumption down.
