brass guards

Featured Replies

so i didn't know where to put this so i thought here would be good.
i am working on a knife and i want to use some brass that i have laying around and i don't if i can forge it. is it possible, how hot and all that good stuff. if some one can give me some info that would be greatly appreciated. (:

Mostly brass can be worked pretty cold. I have worked it in the bright red range but not in the orange. You can work it longer after the red is gone. But it heats pretty fast so no reason to work cold until you planish it. Hope this helps

anneal and cold working are typically used to shape brass as is casting.

If you have one of the few hot working alloys heat to barely red in a dark room and hammer, copper and silver you can work hotter but brass is fairly low temp.

Backwoods were you working silicon bronze?

The material was from some high speed bushings. The bushings id was 18 in dia and 3/4 thick. At the time I thought that it was navel brass but I never really knew what it was. Wish I still had some.
