July 10, 201213 yr I will be traveling in the next week or so and would be interested in seeing some metal working related businesses, schools or suppliers in Eastern PA , New Jersey and Southern New York that I may be able to visit while I am on the road. I am interested in smithy tools, coal suppliers finished items etc. May be interested in a good 100 - 150 lbs Anvil at a good price as well. Can any of you recommend some places to visit while in the area?

July 11, 201213 yr ...and I think you can purchase Mercer's book at the museum, "Ancient Carpenters' Tools," a good survey of early American tools. When Mercer built his tool museum, apparently rebar was not yet understood, so he built this large concrete structure with cotton rags mixed in for binders. As you tour the structure, you can occasionally see rag remnants on the surface of the walls.
