Forge Envy

Featured Replies

I was recently in the USA and was lucky enough to visit Old Sturbridge Village, just to the west of Boston, MA. They have an original (but relocated) 1800's forge and i have to say if I had been allowed (which i wasn't on pain of an angry wife) I could have stayed all day, but for those of you who haven't been to the place I've attached some photos I took...serious Forge Envy on my part.

Chris

ditto! If you get up around Vermont find a town called Grafton and check out the shop there, pretty cool place!

My vote goes to the forge at The Farmer's Museum in Cooperstown, NY.
That's where I first tried blacksmithing (they offer excellent 2 day courses over the Summer) and someday I hope to have a forge like that of my own. (Cue dream sequence music)

most definatly got that forge envy. look at that dual blower system, and the ease it puts on the smith just to pull one cord and get the blast of air. and all the tools... oh my vulcan, i dont think i could ever amass half that in my lifetime.

That is a seriously nice looking set-up, I understand and share the envy.

(I was about to comment on your avitars Sam and Jim and say 'what is it with you blokes and skulls?", until I had a closer look at Jims. Hah, I like it.....)

The forge at Old Sturbridge Village is where I was first inspired as a child to have an interest in blacksmithing. I would like to some day visit the Philadelphia Blacksmith's Guild, as anything that Stewart associates with must be worth seeing.
