wolfshieldrx
Forged a pair of box jaw (hope thats what they're called) tongs and a little punch. Tongs are forged from 1/2 inch square stock. Punch from a tire tool. Used the punch to make holes for rivet in tongs. Thanks for looking...comments encouraged...bart
Private Entrance
Those are nice. Both of them look better than my 1st pair of tongs or punch. Hopefully my 3rd set of tongs turns out as nice as yours. :)
CurlyGeorge
Good job, Bart. Those tongs look heavy enough to handle a lot of work and last a lifetime. The punch is nice, too. Thanks for sharing the pics. :)
MOblacksmith0530
Good looking stuff, I would call them a box jaw.
eric sprado
Very nice first tongs.. They are not, however, box jaw tongs. In box jaws one tong side goes THROUGH the other. Hence the "box" opening. they are quite difficult to make.. Keep hammering. Great job.. Old tire irons are what I use too for almost all my tools. double_edge2
I think that would be box hinge you refer to, if the sides of the bottom jaw wing up to box in lateraly, the material held, it's a box jaw in my view. Nice job on the tongs and punch. You could try pre marking with a center punch for consistency. Or make a simple spring fuller or edge of the anvil to isolate the parts of the tong, then draw out and shape, might give you neater transitions.
