May 10, 201214 yr Hi all, I'm new to the forums and am just starting to organise building a brake drum forge but I'm having a bit of trouble locating the pipe work needed for the air flow. Some of the guides I have seen suggest a 2 inch steel flange, t-pipe and nipples (snigger) but the major hardware places here in the UK only seem to carry plastic or copper. Any suggestions as to where this stuff can be located or are there alternatives? Cheers!
May 10, 201214 yr Don't get hung up on what the book says it "has" to be. Copper would work fine at the firepot (if a bit pricy) and plastic would work fine to deliver the air supply to the tee that leads up to the firepot, you may have to rig a heat shield for it where it goes under the firepot. Look around, ideally you are looking for black iron pipe, even the smaller sizes will work. Check in your area for a dedicated plumbing supply store, and get ready for sticker shock.
May 10, 201214 yr chili, find a local steel stockist, you will definitely need to know where these are in future!! Or a local engineering firm, who in my experience are usually more than happy for you to take offcuts away as they just weigh them in.
May 10, 201214 yr Do you have access to a welder? Car muffler pipe can be used with a flange welded on.
