Coal sources in Guam

Featured Replies

A young friend of mine, in the Navy, recently located in Guam. He is looking for a coal source. Any info would be helpful.

Looks like the only coal on Guam was put there during WWII. Considering the climate I doubt there's much reason to import it, however supposedly there's a Home Depot in Tamuning and I bet one could find lump charcoal there near the grills as an alternative.

Two big military air stations on Guam, Navy and Air Force. Get a connection with someone flying from the mainland and have them bring in a few bags every week. Anything shipped onto the island commercially is subject to the local customs fees. A very corrupt system that requires frequent pay offs and much delay. One of the bigger commerical shipping companies (horizon lines) just pulled out of Guam completely.

Guam itself and the neighboring islands Siapan and Tinian are relatively poor places and essentially exist on the US dole. The islands are the resting place of thousands of American Soldiers and Marines killed during battles to retake the islands from the Japs in WWII. What does GUAM stand for ? ans, "Give Us American Money".

Ask somebody in Guam about the coal. A metal worker might know of a blacksmith on the island. The population is only the size of a smallish city.
