Sites of interest for blacksmiths in Smokys

Featured Replies

Takin a lil trip with my wife to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinberg next week. Any must-see blacksmith sites in area? Thanks. Bart

Dollywood had a great blacksmiths shop at one time and Smokey Moutain Knife in Pigeon Forge has the national knife museum.

Yeah, I live about 20 minutes from Pigeon Forge, and Dollywood and the Knife Works pretty well covers it.

The Knife Works is well worth seeing if you're into knifes and have never been before:

Dollywood is a crowded, touristy mess (IMO), but the blacksmith shop is the one bright spot, if it's still as it used to be. Years ago they really did a great job in promoting their craft programs, but all of that went he way of roller-coasters and water parks.

Rarely, they have a smith working in the forge at Cades Cove.

If your up for a short road trip, come down to Vonore for the Fort Loudoun Garrison weekend:

I'll be manning the forge on Saturday the 14th.

Arrowmont Craft School is just off the strip in d'town Gatlinburg. No blacksmithing but general metalworking, woodtuning, clay, etc. They have a gallery and maybe you could get a tour. It's a pretty cool place.

One of the most beautiful areas I ever saw, and totally ruined by the crowds. Wish I would have been there when the smith was in the cove, wonderful place, would have been awesome.
