Scary Mc
I picked up some scrap 2" 1045 round bar yesterday and am going to attempt a hammer this next week. My question is whether or not it is ok to set the steel directly on the of the soft brick on my Mankel or do I need to find a way to suspend it above the soft brick? Many Thanks- Gary
macbruce
Lay it on the the brick....Soft brick will need replacing every so often and that's the way of it. Just try not to be rough on it when jockeying material around in there, or you could put hard brick in which lasts forever but it won't get near as hot......Borax will destroy either in short order. CallMeSmitty
What's the best way to line the floor of your forge so that you don't have to replace every time you forge weld?
Old South Creations
what type of forge? if it's firebrick use Plistix 900 or ITC 100. It will protect the brick and help insulate the forge. If your forge is lined with kaowool or something similar Plistix 900 or ITC 100 will protect it as well.
