I used to use a six pound long headed hammer for a number of years and started having shoulder and elbow pain and then switched to a three pound rounding hammer and it sure helped to ease the pain. I used the power hammer more than my arm after that for sure. My favorite is an old "Made in Japan" cross peen that weighs 3#, did a lot more forging with that one than anything else.
