toealleyn
I have a 94# anvil with a inverted triangle with the letter "W" cast in the side of the neck. Does anyone know the maker and approx. date?

Sask Mark
It sounds like a Columbian. No idea about the date.
CurlyGeorge
Can you post any pics of the anvil? Take pics of the sides and front and rear view of the feet/base. Also, edit your profile to give your location. You may have some smiths located near you. :)
ThomasPowers
Neck? Don't recall that term in anvil jargon. Columbians have a recessed triangle with a C in it on the side of the anvil a ways below the face. Hmm need to look up "Western" anvils as they were cast---know a couple of smiths with 700+ pounders from them.
CurlyGeorge
On page 228 of Anvils In America, it show a picture and gives a brief description of a "WEST" anvil with an inverted triangle logo that has a W in the center of it. It states that "these anvils were manufactured from vanadium steel from an electric furnace, which makes a very good anvil". :)
greensngravy
I also have a West anvil - 173#, and it is in great shape. Very loud and clear ring to it. Mine does not, however have the inverted triangle, but I have had several folks in this forum vouch that it is a West. It is obviously a steel cast anvil.
