Great post. I am new and this is just the kind of info I am looking for. This entire site is awesome. Thanks to all the individuals that spread the knowledge and experience they have. I made my first hawk last weekend and will share pics as soon as I figure out how.

Lot of good information, but always question everything! Even me! Just skimming I see "1006 = junk steel stuff" and "1018 = Garden tools, re-bar, and tire irons". Most re-bar and tire irons are much better than this.

Read as much about metallurgy as you can. Compare. Contrast. Decide what writing makes sense and what is just babble. And most important of all: EXPERIMENT FOR YOURSELF!! :D
