double_edge2
id like to know/see how to forge diamond shaped bar without swages or top tools please. from round or square or flat?.
Glenn
The first thing that comes to mind is to turn the whole (square) bar 45 degrees. Instant diamond with 4 equal sides. To transform square bar to diamond bar, heat and turn (rotate - twist) the bar 1/8 turn. From round bar stock, forge it to square and turn the bar 45 degrees. Instant diamond. If that is not the answer you want, please redefine the question. (grin)
double_edge2
hi, sorta kinda but not really,... two longer edges and two shorter edges, a proportionate diamond shape bar looking end on. for a consistant result for say a piece of bar 300mm long. for example point dimensions, point to point, 1" by 2"
Sam Salvati
like forging a bevel on a dagger, take flat bar or whatever then bevel one side then the other working the ridge to the center.
double_edge2
yes thankyou....i thought there would be a easy method, however i think it is just an awkward task with no tools.
Dave Budd
just as Sam says. it does take a little parctice, but it's not too hard to get. always had a problem with one side of teh bar turning out flatter (so it was generally triangular rather than diamond), then I had a whole bunch of spears to make and had to learn how to do it properly Just make sure that you hold the bar at the right angle when you strike it and you'll be fine. Obviously if you make up a spring swage with fullers in it then you can use that to tidy up your rough forging, would work best if the bar is uniform of course
