irnsrgn
JUST A REMINDER....8 days from today, all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls. YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS.... To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222. It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS Or go to donotcall.gov

Site Admin
Urban Legends Description: Email rumor Circulating since: September 2004 Status: Mostly false Examples: See below Comments: While it's true that the major wireless phone providers (Verizon excepted) have announced their intention to establish a 411 directory of customers' cell phone numbers in the near future, it is not true that they plan to "publish" said directory for any and all to read. Participating companies say the numbers will be made available only with customer consent, and only via telephone to users who dial directory assistance and pay a fee. The companies also insist the numbers will never be accessible to telemarketers. In fact, per FCC regulations, telemarketers are already prohibited from calling cell phone numbers using automated dialers, which are standard in the industry. The Truth about Cell Phones and the Do Not Call Registry The Federal Trade Commission today reiterated that despite the claims made in e-mails circulating on the Internet, consumers should not be concerned that their cell phone numbers will be released to telemarketers in the near future, and that it is not necessary to register cell phone numbers on the National Do Not Call (DNC) Registry to be protected from most telemarketing calls to cell phones. The truth about cell phones and the DNC Registry is: * Contrary to the e-mail, cell phone numbers are NOT being released to telemarketers, and you will NOT soon be getting telemarketing calls on your cell phone. mcraigl
However..... Many folks I know who are in business for themselves (seems like a lot of folks on this forum fit that category) have their home/office numbers forwarded to their cell phones most of the day. If you're in that category, it's probably still a good idea to list your home/office numbers with the DNC registry. Otherwise you may still end up getting the annoying calls, and pay for them on your cell bill. My .02 McL
Strine
Paying to receive calls????? How does that work? As an aside... seen in the daily newspaper. Our telco "Telstra" have decided to up certain call charges. They quote the ever increasing competition as the reason. How does that work??
