January 9, 201115 yr Wondering if they are both from the same fabricator and could someone clarify the weight on this one. It's a Henry Wright and the numbers (1 5 8) are clearly punched. The English Hundredweight System tells me the quarter middle position must be 0,1,2 or 3. In this case it's a 5 ??? Naz
January 9, 201115 yr Richard Postman (author of Anvils In America) believes that Henry Foster was an imitator of Peter Wright. He cites Peter Wright advertisements that warns buyers of an imitator. The Henry Wrights are known to have very similar lines and markings to the Peter Wright anvils. Apparently the weight stamping was USUALLY in actual pounds, but some of the earlier anvils had the weight stamped in the stone system.
January 10, 201115 yr Author The guy selling thinks it's the actual weight (158) and claims Henry Wrights are rare. His asking price is $450.00. I offered $2.00/pound ($320.00) before I actually go see it. And then I would have to do the rebound test etc... He didn't answer yet, I'll wait. If anyone else has any info on Henry Wright anvils, please send it my way. Thanks for the answers so far ! Naz
