December 7, 201015 yr Finally giving in and building a hyd press using 2 stage log splitter type pump. Looking for a 3 hp 220v 1ph motor but I don't know which type motor is best for this application. Open to all advise...thx, Keith

Open to all advise...thx, Keith The main thing is that you get a 3600 rpm motor if you are using a splitter pump.

Compressor motor is fine (has capacitors for extra starting torque) but not necessary. Hydraulic circuit doesn't have much load at startup since the valve spool is open to return line--could use a standard motor. You going w/ a 11 gpm pump? Bill
