Kenny O Posted November 19, 2010 Share Posted November 19, 2010 Hello I get that these would go inside ,I assume, a cylinder, tube, etc... The material would be at a 90 degree to your hand, so... I don't think as a tong it is very ergonomic, or it is not a tong? They press outward as you grip the handles. I may not use them for there destined function, but at least I have some. Bentiron1946 Posted November 20, 2010 Share Posted November 20, 2010 My guess it that it is for up sizing the ends of pipe, similar to making slip fit joins for muffler pipe of similar gauge pipe. Perhaps lead plumbing pipe back in the day or bell and hub for copper gas pipe. maddog Posted November 20, 2010 Share Posted November 20, 2010 Yeah it does look like a spreader, not a tong. Closing the reins opens the "jaws". Two sets of jaws for different diameter pipes.
