Today started off with a Vets Day program in the High School Gym at 1100.

The Parade started at 1330 and proceeded down our Main Street, Escorted by a Police Cruiser.

Led by our Vets Color Guard, followed by the Patriot Riders Group, the Old Vets on a Float, the VFW Auxiliary Ladies, the High School Band playing patriotic music, the speaker for the morning program in a restored WW2 Jeep, and the Second Grade Children with a Banner "Thank You Vets. There were numerous other vehicles which I didn't take pics of also.

The Temp was 38

Remember those who gave you your freedom. Do whatever you like with your life but remember that as an american you were given that gift by our veterans. If not for their sacrifices we would not know the life we take for granted today. I am proud for the privelige of having served my country for four years in the United States Marine Corps. Our brave men and women who serve today are setting new hights of honor in the face of determined and able foes. Theirs is no easy path. My time in Operation Just Cause (Panama '89) was a cakewalk by comparison. I feel so priveliged to have had the providence of growing up in a family with so many veterans and I know I am a better man and a better american for it. Members of my family have served at such places/engagements as Iraq, Afghanistan, Panama, Taiwan crisis, Vietnam, Korea, Normandy, The Bulge, Hurtgen Forrest, Saipan, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Meuse/Argonne, Belleau Wood, Gettysburg, Winchester, Yellow Tavern, 2nd Bull Run/ 2nd Manasass (both sides) Ressaca Georgia ( 1 wia, 1 kia, father and son, union) and one ancestor as an irregular in the revolution from New York. The amazing thing in all of that service by some twenty individuals is most saw sharp combat and only one kia and one wia, the father and son named Sinon at Ressaca Geargia, They advanced and fell shoulder to shoulder. My cousin Jimmy was shot down three times in Vietnam (HMM 265 helicopter crewchief) and came home without a scratch. My Brother in Law (Col. U.S.A.F. and his wife, Lt. COL U.S.A.F.) are now again both serving in harms way, GOD BLESS THEM.

I didn't have to go far to thank a veteran for serving our country. My wife is in the US Army Reserves and she was deployed last year for Operation Iraqi Freedom. She also has two overseas tours to her credit from her active duty stint before transferring to the reserves. Next week is "Hug A Veteran Week", we each got an early start.....:)

Remember that the price of you freedom was not free. The check that paid for it is chiseled on stone in many graveyards and signed in blood on battlefields all over the world. If you are reading this thank a teacher. For the fact that you are reading this in English, thank a vet.
