papairon Posted August 23, 2010 Share Posted August 23, 2010 I picked up my second anvil today and I really don't know much about it. It's a Hill 155 lb. It is very good shape with some small cuts in the face and one chip one one edge. I haven't been able to find much on the web so far but it appears it's English and could be made some where around 1830-1870. I have a small Peter Wright 83 lb. and it's great I just wanted something larger to work on heavier stock. If anyone has more information, I would appreciate your input. Thomas Dean Posted August 23, 2010 Share Posted August 23, 2010 Per "Anvils In America" your anvil is English, 'made between 1830 and 1850 or a little later.' Made in Burmingham. It will have these features; "3 handling holes, a hardie, a pritchel, a table and are rounded under the horn." Info from AIA pages 68 and 73. Thanks Some pictures, I hope this works OK. I tried some earlier and they were way too big. I cleaned up my anvil and took out most of the chisel marks. I wish I would have taken a before picture.
