New Brent Bailey Hammer

Featured Replies

Hi, All. Received my new Brent Bailey hammer today. It's in what I believe he calls the Modified style. Fit and finish is fantastic. Can't wait to try it out. Brent was great to deal with. He took a lot of time discussing the hammer with me and blacksmithing in general. He sent me a center punch with the hammer for no extra cost. For those of you that recommended Brent, I heartily thank you and can add my sincere recommendations to yours. Here are a couple of pics. Oh yeah, that hammer is ~2 1/4 lbs. I'm not sure of the exact weight. With the handle it comes in at about 2 lb 10 oz. Off to the smithy to try it out shortly. Thanks Brent!

Nice hammer! Yep Brent makes some nice tools and i highly recommend him as well. I won a 4lb. forging sledge from one of the give aways he had on his site a while back.
Great hammer i use it a lot.

I have sent many people to Brent, all have thanked me over and over for doing so... He makes a great tool, I love mine.... my bet is you'll love yours even more after swinging it for a bit..

Both my wife and I tried it yesterday. Fantastic. Feels great to hand and is wonderful to forge with. Haven't tried the rounding side yet. Will use it some next time and see what that's like.

Hey I was wanting to purchase a hammer like that from Brent B. So what exactly is the name of that hammer, and about how much did it cost? Thanks for the info I was planning on using the hammer for bladesmithing. How do you think it work out? Also you said the hammer only weighed 2 lbs and 10 ounces, does it still move metal well with it being light?

It's really fantastic. And, yes, it moves metal! I've especially learned to use the rounding hammer side and the different edges on the flat side to move metal more efficiently too. I think it was called the modified and cost about $155. He also made a beautiful center punch for me, too. I would absolutely buy another Brent Bailey hammer in a heart beat. He spent a lot of time on the phone with me, too. As far as weight goes, I already had a 3lb Hofi hammer and wanted something a bit lighter. The head on this is about 2+ pounds (don't have an exact #) and the handle makes the extra weight.

My next goal though (besides getting some more hammer time) is to take some lessons with Brian Brazeal. The first thing he usually does with students is make a hammer and then shows you how to use it to best advantage by using the different dies the hammer surfaces offer, such as the rounding face, or the fullers that the different edges really are.

Go for it!

Checked my records. It was $155 including shipping.

I've still got the centre punch that Brent gave me in exchange for a copy of some of my European leg photo's when we met at Alan Ball's place in Oz a few years ago. Only ever had to redress the point once in all that time. Really nice bloke and very good tool Smith

I just bought a 5# hand hammer from Brent with some birthday money from my mom. I'm sixty and she still does this :). It was a custom design, modified hofi style. I sent him some sketches. It's beautiful. He was very pleasant to deal with. I paid the same as ofafeather. I ordered just the head to save $20 on having it fitted with a handle. It came with a handle anyway.
