February 25, 201016 yr You got it right. Old anvil/vise or at least 1/2 of it(like most) Being hollow cast iron puts it in the novelty group. They tend to chip/break or shatter if hit very hard. Ken
February 25, 201016 yr The date on it is probably the patent date if you really want info on it dig into the patent website for details of what it looked like originally. Also remember that they can use the same molds with that patent date forever afterwards---it's the "can be any earlier than this date" not an "it's this old date"
