December 8, 200916 yr Will any old coarse rasp work as a hot rasp or do I need a farrier or "blackmsith" model?
December 8, 200916 yr Any rasp will work for hot rasping as the metal is softer than the rasp. The coarser, the faster it works but you have to watch you don't get too coarse as it can be hard to start the file.
December 9, 200916 yr If you know a farrier ask them for their old rasp, its a good way to remove some metal fast. If you don't know any farriers you can ask at any horse stables who they use. They pitch those old rasp and they say there dull but their plenty sharp for us blacksmith.
December 10, 200916 yr Bad Creek Blacksmith is absolutely correct. I was a farrier and I know. The rasp is the most expensive tool that a farrier uses because they need them to be sharp, and they replace them very often.
