Greenfire7676 Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Hi everybody, I'm a young, talented knifemaker to be, I have been working on knives for a few months and love it. I have made 2 knives so far. Both can be looked up on youtube, my name is Greenfire7676 on just look for them on my acount, I don't have too many videos yet. I have plans for a few new knives over the next few months. I'm going to try to get into forging because I have always wanted to make railroad spike knives, ever since I saw them on sale many years ago. I am on a pretty tight budget (who isn't?) so any advie where I can get cheap, good tools and material would be great. Quote
ThomasPowers Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 (edited) Welcome! You will be amazed what you can do when you have the ability to heat steel up! BTW the funny looking clips the railroads use can have up to twice as much carbon content as the spikes do. Think about using them. They'll make a better blade. As for getting things cheap; go right over there! Much cheaper than paying shipping charges for smithing equipment! (or to put it another way we need to know your general location to make good suggestions...) Edited December 3, 2009 by ThomasPowers Quote
