Used fire bricks

Featured Replies

Hi folks, I have an old propane bbq that I was going to make into a forge. I work for a shortline railroad and have access to used firebricks that came out of a glass furnace. some still have a little glass on them. what would this do in a forge when used for the floor and perhaps for firepot extenion? Thanks in advance

They should work fine, especially if they are free, the price we all love so dearly. I wouldn't worry about the glass if that's what your asking, if anything you could chip it off if you wanted but it's not necesary, if you do be sure to wear a face sheild.

They'll work fine. All the left over glass will do is become clinker eventually. Pick it out when it becomes a problem.

Free is good. Free and actually useful is golden! Heck, that's exactly the kind of thing that might, MIGHT convince the wife the great big pile of useful resources is NOT scrap and junk to be hidden until it can be discarded. ;)
