Kendrick
When I first started smithing I worked almost entirely with scrap. My first big haul was a few of the tensioning rods that run diagonally in steel buildings. I loved working that stuff because it was extremely tough and never cracked or got brittle. Does anyone on here by chance know what steel that is so I can try to find some more? Thanks, Kendrick
Charlotte
At a guess I'd say it is A36 aka mild steel. Scrap materials had to identify as the provenace is lost when they are scraped. A36 is the most comonly avilable steel in North America.
Frosty
I'm looking at the blueprints for my HCI steel building and it lists hot rolled bar as A529 Grade 55. The pre-loading rods are the only hot rolled bar in the building so I assume that's what they're talking about. Frosty
