Someone has said I could use AR wear plate steel to build my fish gigs out of. They said it is used around rock mines in their chutes and such cause it doesn't wear out. Is anybody familier with this type steel or something close? It needs to be 1/4" thick or close and 5" wide and needs to be tempered so that the points don't roll up easy if a rock is hit with it. I have one here I borrowed and will post pics after I get them loaded. Thanx for ya'lls help. Cooter

AR wear plate is Abrasion Resistant. AR 400 is used around concrete plants ALOT. I have had way too much dealings with that.

Sorry, I can't comment on the metallurgy of this material. Only guessing I'd say it has some manganese content.

Here are the specs for Wearform 400:

C - .30
Mn - 1.15/1.60
Cr - .20
Mo - .10
B - .005

BHN 360-400

It is basically an abrasion resistant spring steel.

If you have the AR plate, use it; otherwise any flat spring steel wide enough should work well for your application. Avoid the rocks, the moving things in the water are what you're after.
