Steve McCarthy Posted June 9, 2009 Share Posted June 9, 2009 I am making the move from outside and setting up my forge inside. The Hofi blueprint of a side draft looks to be simpler all around. No hole in the roof, less construction, and no rain water in the shop. Will the side draft draw as good as the super sucker. peacock Posted June 10, 2009 Share Posted June 10, 2009 I have never use a super sucker but have alot of experience with the side drafts. as long as the flue pipe is at least 10 or 12 inch in diameter they work great. Be sure the tunnel from the forge to the flue slopes a little to the outside so that rain doesn't run inside. I burn a couple of sheets of news print in the tunnel to start the draw. urnesBeast Posted June 11, 2009 Share Posted June 11, 2009 I had one fabricated to the specs shown in the Hofi print. 15 foot tall stack. The only problem that I had is that once I was not holding my hammer real tight and it got sucked up in the draft. I had to get it out of my neighbors yard... divermike Posted June 12, 2009 Share Posted June 12, 2009 I used corrugated 12 drainage pipe, and made my side draft hood out of sheetrock and metal studs, works like a champ, Just shielded the face with some thin sheet metal.
