Heating oil tank forge

I have an old heating oil tank in my backyard, and am new to metalsmithing.
I am wondering if anybody knows what would have to happen to turn this into a forge. It already has a 1/4" pipe on one end for the oil to drain and doubt that this is sufficient. Anything would help.

    Think smaller a propane tank will make a decent forge oil tanks make great giant BBQ cookers
