Style of forge?

Featured Replies

I was given an old forge and have no idea what I've got...except that it is really old. It looks much like the two in the attached pix...more like the 2nd picture (four-legged version). Can anyone help me with a best guess? Thanks.

looks like a early riviters forge .. they work ok for general work ..have fun

I think you'll have to send it to me so I can find a name on it and verify its shape and usability....

Coal forges that size and shape are old rivet forges. They used to construct buildings and bridges with rivets, so these forges were pretty common. They usually heat up a small area of a bar, about 2 or so inches in length, in my humble experience.

ya that is what i think it is .. ive used one like this and it worked ok... if you are doing big items or forge welding you need to mound the coal and foddle with fire more than a forge with a deep firepot.. it is a coal forge but you can use charcoal or coke in this type of forge .. enjoy
