Quenchcrack
Leroyk, O1 is a very simple high-carbon tool steel. It is very inexpensive as tool steels go. I bought 1/4" x 36" rods for about $5 before the price of steel went crazy last year. You have some good blade materials there, go get forging! melsdad
Most of the knives I have made so far are from O1. None I made have been forged yet, all stock removal. If properly heat treated, and tempered they make excellent blades that hold an edge well.

Steve Sells
Why the shock? these same steels cost almost 2x as much online, look at Admiral, or K&G. whats sad is paying $100 for steel, and being able to carry the entire purchase into the shop in one hand.:(

Its been a long time since I bought steel on line. Imagine my suprise when went looking for some 5160 3/4x2" and discovered that the shipping cost would be also most as much as the material and the material was twice what I paid years ago.
