There are many forge designs. I hope this helps. Here's the post where I showed mine. I was countryboy39067 before a login mix up.

Joshua I've never been picked on for being a blacksmith. Most people around here in Mississippi find it interesting I do something their Grandfather did. Besides I'm a martial arts instructor too....I admire your anti bully techniques!!
-
Or hand them a block of steel and only say "Here's your sword"..... :)
I have a personal failing that when somebody comes up to the forge at a demo and tells everybody that he knows all about blacksmithing as he has done it on a video game, I liked to hand him the soft hammer and ask him to show me something...The amusement is well worth the fuel and metal wasted and having to dress the hammer again... -
Thank you, I've worked very hard at it! I'm actually using it in a demo scenario showing how we can damage people if we bully them. I also do martial arts demo's with the Namido Fire Team, a Christian martial arts club. I'm not all bad, I just dislike know-it-alls!
Woodskevin---you are an *evil* *evil* *person*! And I like that in an acquaintance! -
Ive tried forging M2. Let's just say I'm saving mine for all those people who think knife making is easy. :)

"I like to make skillets and fill them with gold"!!! Lol funny stuff! :)

I've been thinking of doing the same thing except I'm considering upsetting it to have a slightly larger surface because I think my track may be smaller.

My forge stack is 21" dia. I have no smoke issues as long as the local wind stays below 20mph.

I originally thought about building a forge trailer. I guess I'll return to that idea. I hope to do demos in the future so I completely understand all the view points and suggestions previously mentioned. Thanks guys!!

Hey folks. I recently aquired a large 12V evaporator fan used in defroster and heater units. My idea is to build a portable forge table and pot that would mount in the tow receiver hitch on my truck and use the trailer plug as a 12V power source. What's do y'all think?

I'm setting mine up with a blower and motor from a clothes dryer. I haven't plumbed to my satisfaction yet, so I'll post on it's performance soon.

If it is your image, what not use the attach feature on the forum?
My only access to this site is via a smart phone. This is the only option I've found. -
Here's a photo I took while forging this past summer.

Oh I better order a full rebuild kit for my 27 ton log splitter. I foresee a huge increase in use!!! Thanks for the idea!!!

If you can, post pictures of your current setup so we can help you better.

I assume you don't have a lot of experience with bladesmithing as you are asking about it. You may put more bends in with re-heat treating it! Good Luck!
Very true and very possible. If I fail I'll just buy him another one. It's a friendly challenge, not a paying customer. -
No racing stripes? Lol

A thought I have is, what is the quality of the blade. My son bought one from a big box store and it bends when you look at it sideways. Sad piece of steel. It may not be worth the time and effort.
I believe his was sold under Ozark Mountain which sells a lot of outdoor camping equipment for a low price to be used by the common person.
This one I'm working on is a Trimontina. Heres what their website said. Blade Composition: SAE 1070 High-Carbon Steel. I'm gonna go with JPH's recommendations in "The Complete Bladesmith" and straighten, harden, and heat treat it again. -
I believe that would be a very good idea. You won't have to worry about hot coals laying in the forge and hoping that they go out. Charcoal is a great heat source. Just be careful of the little fire fleas flying around, especially if you forge indoors.
My smithy is indoor. It's sand floor now with the plan to pea gravel it soon. I played it safe checking the stack exhaust and embers from the firepot and having a bucket of water handy for a quick toss. Thanks for everyone's post. -
Happy Birthday Mac!! Go tap your anvil 64 times. :)
''Will still need me will you still feed me when I'm sixty four?''............ OMG it' here!...................1/1/1948 -
Yes I forged last night until the fire was shallow. I scooped it all out and put it in a bucket full of water. I figure I'll do that after every firing until the bucket gets somewhat full. Then I can screen it and let it dry to use later. Does that sound like a good idea to y'all?

To finish wiring and equipping my smithy so I can rethink it, rewire it, and add more equipment....it's never ending I hear... :)

Since I'm running low on coal I decided to try charcoal. I purchase some Royal Oak. It starts easily and heats well in my opinion. My question is what is the most suggested way to shut down a charcoal fire with your done for the day?

Last year I got a quote from L Brand coke that I could get 2000 lbs delivered for $526. Now I know that was last year but I can't imagine it's reached $1000 yet.
