  1. Thanks Anvil. Yes and i have a lot of it too. I can get a lot of practice.
  2. I got these at the flea market. The first three pair were hoof nippers that i forged into v bit tongs. The third pair are flat bit tongs that i bought pretty cheap, and the last two are twisting wrenches i made from old adjustable wrenches.
  3. JHCC The thickness of the stock is about 1/2 inch. They are suspension springs for a car.
  4. I just wanted to share a bit about myself. I suffer from social anxiety disorder and PTSD. I'm on medication which helps a lot but isnt a cure. It makes interaction with others very difficult. There may be other problems that i have as well. I've been banned from many forums i have been on. I quit politics to stay true to God. I don't see arguing as Christlike and don't think i need to force my beliefs onto others via political action or legislation. Some people would hide their illness because they don't want to be stigmatized but i feel the need to let you know why i do things the way i do. I don't see myself going to blacksmithing meetings or schools. Its hard enough just working. Blacksmithing and welding is my hobby. It gives me something positive to focus my attention on.
  5. Thanks. I have some small coil springs, about 1/2 inch. Not sure what i can use them for. I think i'll either buy some 3/4 stock or try to score some thick leaf springs
  6. JHCC. This is what i don't understand. You tell me not to quote anyone but you quoted me. I don't get it, I'm sorry. But i will just not use the quote function at all. Problem solved.
  7. Thanks George, i will. I've had time to think about it. I guess i was caught off guard and didn't respond very well.
  8. I can understand not using the quote, im not sure what it has to do with quoting the person right above me however. Im confused. Anyway, i was surprised to find a prayer thread on this website. Me being a Christian i thought that was good. But i don't fit in anywhere, not even Christian forums. I've been banned so many times. I guess I'm meant to be a loner. Thanks for your kind post. Have a blessed day. Ill stay off this website unless i need help with something, maybe that will work.
  9. Look, I'm not a troll, and i seriously didn't understand. I agreed to what you advised me so im not sure what the problem is. I'm leaving this forum, i have better things to do with my time than this. Been there done that. By. Maybe you guys understand but i don't. Its not my fault you have a quote function that shouldn't be used. That doesn't even make sense. Anyway, I'm sorry i upset you you. That seems to be a recurring problem with me, so I'll log out now. Have a blessed day.
  10. Forgive me. I don't understand what the problem is or the solution. I really don't but I'm trying.
  11. But doesn't it get confusing without a quote? How will people know what in responding to? Look at this post. Who am i responding to?
  12. Yes i agree. I'm hoping this tool i make will help me forge better, but learning how to use the anvil and hammer is a must.
  13. Thanks. I still don't get the quote thing but I'll try to figure it out. I just figured grinding might be easier than forging but I'm not against forging it. I was under the impression that heat treating such a tool would be a waste of time because using it to forge hot steal will cause it to lose its temper, but perhaps I'm wrong
  14. Forgive my ignorance. The website said A-36 was annealed so i assumed it was hardenable steel. I want hard steel and don't plan on forging it, i plan on shaping it with a grinder instead. How hard is 4140 when its annealed? Is it still harder than mild steel?
  15. I found some A-36 and 4140 at reasonable costs. Of course shipping is a killer. How well will these steels work? Also I plan on leaving them annealed because they will likely lose their temper from working hot steel anyway. Are these steels still harder than mild steel even when annealed?
  16. Thanks, i will check it out in more detail because i just skimmed through it before. I posted this once already but i accidentally deleted it.
  17. Thanks, i think i need to visit the local big rig scrap yard.
