From what I've read on line, I think it maybe high carbon chrome steel? These blades are probably 30 years old if not older.

Hello all, I acquired 12 ft long shear blade off of a sheet metal shear that is capable of cutting 1/4 mild steel. Would this material be suitable for knife making? The blades are super hard, I had a hard time cutting the blade in two via a three phase plasma cutter. Any and all information is welcome. The repair man that replaced the blades at work didn't know what exact grade of steel the blades are.

I would feel more comfortable if I had more experience under my belt is all. The real payment is creating something that is being utilized and enjoyed. That alone means the world to me! The great thing about this hobby is our work will out last us. Thanks for your input sir!

Hello everyone, it's been a while since I posted. Worked a ton of overtime all summer so no blacksmithing. I finally got back into blacksmithing thanks to the owner of our country mom n pop store. This is the second batch of hooks he asked me to make him. I didn't feel right taking money from him, but he insisted and seemed a bit offended by that. I'm too green to be selling anything yet imho.

JHCC, Nice fab work on those bending forks. Turning 1" round to 7/8th" square is very cool thinking outside the box. Looks like flux core?

I have 304 and 316L stainless steel rod and flat drop that I'm looking forward to forging.

Guy down the road from me has a Ma Deuce and many other giggle switch guns. I need to take him up on his offer to shoot, but its expensive. Hes a gun collector and has an SOT license to manufacture anything he wants. Lucky guy!!

CTG, I always read reviews and watch video reviews when thinking about buying tools from there. Sime stuff is great and some stuff is garbage.

I bought a throatless beverly shear from a chain tools store. The name of the store has the word Freight in it. It cost $159.00 plus you can use the 20% coupon. I wish I would have bought this tool sooner. It cuts circles, radius, and odd shapes with ease. I use a brand name beverly shear at work and this one is on par with it.

I love the finish on old firearms. Rust bluing is my favorite. My BYF41 Luger has a beautiful rust bluing finish on it. A gunsmith told me that if you rust blue parts and then soak then in used motor oil for a few days, it will give the finish a darker appearance.

Pnut, I have watched the video. I think it would best serve me to watch it a couple times a week or more until the skill sets are forged into my brain.
