  1. Good day every one. I've recently been stationed in Okinawa japan and am wondering if any knows any smiths in the area? Oh and thanks for all the help in Maryland I learned a lot
  2. greetings. im finaly back from USMC basic and mct so i should be able to log on more. Anyways im in Aberdeen proving growns Maryland for the next 8 months and i was curious if there are any smiths in the area that would be willing to take a student on weekends.
  3. ok i managed to get 2 barrels working. A .45cal and a way more wrist freindly 38. I found out that if you make your own barrel in the rennisance style it will Not hold up to current standard smokless powder, even if its made correctly. Only use basic black powder. any way ill have some pics of the barrels and the finished guns in about a week when i finish making the handles.:)
  4. iv recently had a request for a damascus shaving razor. iv made razors before, but he wants the blade to be green. how can i turn steel green w/o painting it and w/o messing up the temper?
  5. sorry primtechsmith but im not going to be able to make that trip. its just too far for my truck to make it. but if you can post a video of the proccess itll be most appreciated.
  6. the two hardi holes are for useing multiple tools at once, ex table hardies and or benders of some kind;) mines just like it and yes the odd shaped holes are a HUGE PAIN IN THE WRONG PLACE, especialy when you have to make a new tool for a special jop
  7. thanks for the help, ill try traditional and if it doesnt work ill go with paying for someone else to do it.
  8. Im attempting to make a set of flintlock rifles and pistols, can anyone tell me or show me how to make the barrel? Iv done it twice allready but they blow out the side when i test them. Iv been wraping steel around a piece of scroll steel and stick welding it. Is there a better way to do it?
  9. like chadj said. but what kind of wood is the handle and what type of heat treat did you use?
  10. like every ones said, "if you leave blood samples on your work you might be a bladesmith". im still young but most forge freindly people can tell im a knife maker just by how messed up my hands are. but the non hammer and steel folkes just say im realy **** up. so i guess it all depends on who you talk to :D
  11. im new here but it seams like a monthly chalenge should be easy enough for the newbies while still being a chalenge for the experienced members. i like the idea of the monthly project. so as an idea for matterials: railroad spikes, horse shoes, leaf springs, and wagon tounges are easily obtainable and are a lot of metal to play with and some pretty cool stuff can come out of it.
  12. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Navren Scafidi, pleased to meet all of you and hope that i can answer as many questions as i ask. sorry for the over formal intro, but i couldnt resist
