thanks folks for your nice comments..this is also a test for a clear coat finish on the metal.I used helmsman sparurathane satin..it worked well when I lived in texas, we'll see how it does in north carolina..and yes if all goes well i will make up a batch of home brew in the fall

this year i decided to try to grow hops..the plants or vines will grow up to aruond 20 feet so i needed to come up with some kind of way to support the vines..I made this hook and ring..the hook was forged out of 5/16 x 2& 1/2 flat stock..finished length about 45 inches.. the leaf and branch is out of 1" round..ring out of 1/2" round.

you could check with michigan artists blacksmiths association(MABA)..i think they still have a tool loan program..that could help get you started.

saintjohn...works kind of like a tuning fork.after I form the cup in the bell I heat it up to yellow and quench it to put it under tension. that seem to help with the sound.

Its friday again...been trying to utilize down time to work on small projects and at the same time work on hammer control and what to demo at our up coming NC ABANA metting at Oak Hill Iron(home of BIG BLU)..for some reason I've been focussing on the Bell..This one started with 3/4 x 2 inch flat 26 inches long and the rest of the parts started with 1 1/4 round..I may tweek the proportions a bit next saturday. but I think this may make a pretty entertaining demo..jsut thought i'd share..hope to see some of you folks next saturday.

maybe this qustion has already been posted...I no its really is up to personal preference but what is a good general peen size for a hand hammer? (cross, straight, diagonal.) is it proportional to the weight of the hammer? Or does it depend on the type of work beeing done?
