  2. a guys if I remember right ya'll said that the blacksmith makes the tools ya?? well tongs are unknown to me well more exact blacksmithing ones. to your guys knowledge would their be vids on making them or no?? because I need to see someone make them and so I know how to make a pair!!
  3. a guys I've realized that I may have already asked the last question (creek rocks) so sob on me. sorry ya'll and Daswulf I know you are giving good.. no, great info also that goes to all the other guys as well!! so I know about bricks expl. and clay dirt due to ya'll... and I'm not holding out on forging it's just I'm in a pickle right now with my folks so I can't start as I expected to. I'm sorry if I xxxxxx ya'll off!! also I do have plans that can be set in place for my forge but it's folks that are stopping me so every thing is in place to start but i'm missing a few things for me to start, I have it covered though.
  4. thanks guys and I don't live near a place that sells clay mud exp. a hardware store and the type of forge I'm making is a proto- type one so thanks about the exp. bricks tip. I can I use regular big rocks in a creek bed for my forge hypthical (may miss-spelled that) I mean, just wondering.
  5. what would I use to clean out the ash from the forge to keep it not corrosive?? like water, etc.
  6. So how do I prevent the ash being corrosive?? besides covering my forge with something that's what I'm trying to say! Also sorry if you didn't understand what I was talking about.
  7. So is there any way for me to give extra protection from the elements besides using heat sealent and a car hood??
  8. I know but the ones that I'm just looking for are sturdy and not soft because of the shipping or hauling would break them. that's why and I got some advice from a store helper online about the type of brick I'm trying to get and find. He said that it would crack and if I don't want that to happen I've need them to cool down for a decent amount of time before putting any water on it. So at least I have got some good info on the type of brick I'm trying to use! Also it's going to be a little bit long time to add a roof over my forge due to the amount I get paid! So it's a temporary problem right now and it's a outdoor forge.
  9. thanks for the guys that are helping me with my brick problem. also because it needs to withstand out door weather. also for the new people who have joined this chat i'm making a charcoal forge so you need to adjust your expression to this chat
  10. Hey guys! I've been trying and looking for some fire bricks, that can reach up to 2000 degrees and I was wondering if you guys would know of any? that Lowe's or home Depot would be able to get that high and not be soft. So if you do please let me know! Also I'm trying to hang in there but I feel like I'm gonna explode due to the hard time finding the brick.
  11. Hey guys I need to know how to identify galvanized steel and iron so it doesn't harm me or worse so if you can send/put a picture of the stuff on here so I can see what the difference is between regular steel and iron thx! Also if you can describe it to me if you have accidentally come across it before when you get your stock it will also be helpful too!
  12. Thanks for the help! I will let you know if I need any more info on safety items or etc.
  13. Thanks for the comments! :-) A I'm working on getting safety for me so I won't get hurt, etc. And I really don't know what grade or rating on welding/Blacksmithing glasses I need so can you please give me some direction on what grade I'm looking for. Also I'm working with a coal forge if that's a variable in the grade for the glasses. I'm starting with getting stuff for safety and bricks that's about all I can probably afford for now.
  14. :-( :-) :-( srry for asking the same questions over and over I have a hard time remembering what questions I've asked. I think I should write them down so I don't re-ask them again! Yes I know that but I'm only starting with knives for basic start and on top of that I'm going to do some of the stuff from a book that is novice too! Meaning book stuff first then blades if you understand, also I know making a blade isn't a novice thing I'm just asking for when I get there (at the level of making blades). So does this clarify things up?
  15. Thanks guys for the help! So how's ya'lls forging going? Oh! I almost forgot to ask this but since I'm a newbie and my forge is not ready almost! have you guys devil in sword or knife making? I'm just asking because I need to know if you know what type of metal to work with for when I start since I'm novice.
  16. Idk man I give up u got me. all I'm saying is that I really need the info help because I really need an anvil. so I thought it would be a good thing for me to get most of the tools that I need to get there. And Thomas sorry for what I'm about to say, "this is not the time to play 20 questions or kid games!" So IF you really know just tell me. This is the most recent and valuable information I got my hands on; and I need to know again so I can go there next time. Also it would stop some of the why game xx!! so let me have the info.... Please?!:-[ and yes I'm actually acting like a ....... Adult!
  17. Hey guys it's been a while since I've been on and I need some help with the info that I got from a black Smith in Michigan. he said that there is a place near Gary Indiana that sales blacksmith tools each year and I have forgotten where. so if you guys know what I am talking about please give me the info again because I have bad memory :-( thx for the info if you know!
  18. thx for the advice guys now I can avoid any uncontrolled fires when they happen with this advice. a on the radius that I'm covering is 10 ft. so it applies to it?? if it does COULD bricks, rocks, etc. be use as a safety measure to be put around the area?
  19. hey guys, I need away to get ride of some grass for my forge..... yes I'm finally go to make it!! (over the summer) I just need your opinions on (one last thing) something. here it is, like I said I need to get ride of some grass for my forge. and I need to know what is the best salt to do so? because my forge is starting off to the ground for now and I do not want to damage the lawn by digging. and please try to keep it to a grocery store wise for the salt. I'll be back to show pics on where/range of the area for where I'm placing it.
  20. a this is for the guys on this blog/site who wants to meet me in person like frosty and it's a few years out of date so picture this; me with longer hair, a little bit skinnier, with a small amount of facial hair. also idc if you guys send me a pic of yourself just make sure it's appropriate for 5 yr old to see. so you've finally met me frosty but not in a tangible way! I've some last questions for you guys then I may go m.i.a. from this site so here they are; what type of clay is good for a forge? what brand of fire proof bricks are best for outdoors? which is a good hardware store (homepot or lowes) for tools? estemental wise how long would the plaster of pairis last (in forging rounds)? so their you guys have it so see ya'll!!!!!!
  21. Dave sorry man but I can't make it.... it's due to work; part time. so I'm going to say this for you..... "XXX" also the IBA meeting in the fair grounds is in June?? y or n my memory is somewhat bad. for the "OTHER" guys...... listen up I'm not blocking you or riding your advice off, etc.! it's just that... hold on before I go on if you heard the phrase '' don't go beat up a dead chicken'' or something like that? alright now I can go on; well I thing I may be doing that to you guys. look I know ....(sigh) that there is extremely raw info on this website and you guys are trying help me to the best you can; I'm sorry that I'm acting like a xxxxxxx! to you guys. a this MAY help think that you are a teacher at a school and I'm the student.... worded it in a way a student would be able to under stand. that may help ya'll and me
