  1. That rod is just a piece of pipe machined to same diameter of the shaft on my crank. The top caps were poured in place and I used babbitrite squished in with collars I made to fit to seal the ends. It works great and is re-useable.
  2. Finally able to pour my bearings today. All seened to go well. This was my first attempt at this. Here are a few pics of the pour.
  3. brighter pics. I'm learning!!! What is the anchor symbol mean.
  4. I just cleaned up anvil and took some more pics with coke can so you can have something to see how big it is. Pics are all dark. I will try to edit them and post again. I was also able to grind out 3 knife blades and heat treat them as well this afternoon.
  5. I finally got a hammer and a very large Peter Wright Anvil. I tried to buy this hammer many years ago but the owner promised someone first dibs on it. He finally sold it and I went to the new owner and told him if he ever sold it to call me. Well he called couple weeks ago and asked if I was still interested and I went straight over and asked if he would also sell the anvil. HE agreed and I paid him and now have both items that I have wanted for so long. I don't really do any blacksmithing but do forge weld some damascus for knife blades. I have always been fasinated with this type old equipment. I now have 3 P.W. anvils. Does anyone know when this anvil was made?
  6. they are not structural but they look horrible. Do you think pouring babbit or lead into voids would hold up.
  7. I just purchased a new 50 lb Canadian giant trip hammer and an 400 lb+ anvil. I stripped down the trip hammer and blasted all the parts to clean it up and rebuild it. The hammer is in over all good shape except for when it was casted there is many pitts and voids. Does anyone know how to go about filling them in properly? Jim
