There is a 10 on the front I know it indicates the weight at 100lbs. but the 5 on the back is eluding me. I can't find any information on what this could mean

Yeah I knew about the 10 mark. I couldn't pass up the deal I got it for 1$ a pound and it looks barely used. I read somewhere that someone purchased a vulcan with a 40 on the back indicating the year it was made which would be 1940. I just want to get some verification on that

The only piece of info I could is that it might be a serial number indicating the year it was made. I don't know how true that is though

I recently purchased a vulcan anvil 100#. I know the 10 on the front is weight. but there is a 5 on the back heel and I can't figure out what it means. can anyone help?
