  1. Forged up some choker cable. It's got an open weld but it's not caused a problem . The handle is maple burl . I drilled the aluminum rod and inserted brass pins.

Copper buss bar for the guard and a piece of black and silver dyamomd wood for the butt cap.

  2. Just finished this one. 4 different metals in 7 layers. Center is a band mill blade from a local sawmill . Then pure nickel , pallet banding and finally Choker cable .    Not sure what the wood for the handle is but it finished out nice.

  3. Thanks guys. The blue is turquoise . You can order it from Jantz of Gun and Knife . I tried forging another piece of cable . And could only get to 2045° . I had to lengthen my forge out For the longer cable. Im using a brick pile forge so it's easier to adjust for size.

I'm using a 3/4" Frosty T burner I built ....... So I picked up the parts to build a second one . I'm going to run it on its own propane tank . This gives me a lot of flexibility.

  4.  Cable and band mill blade San Mai. Muriatic acid etch. The brass button came from the peddle of an old piano. The sheath is hand stitched 8/9 oz vegetable tan with a full deer skin lining. This was my first attempt at Forge welding ,really enjoyed it and learned a lot.

  5. That's beautiful. I'm working on my first San Mai ( cable and band saw blade) right now. I've made a copper bolster and have been searching for a patina look that I like. If you don't mind me asking how did you achieve that color on your copper . Thanks .

  6. I thought about cutting and folding it after I grind all the decarb off .

I've read that you begin to lose the detail of the cable if fold it .

The bar stock is not part of knife .  If  I shorten my forge I might be able to get to 2300 ° . I will need to remove the square stock handle and use my tongs

This has been a learning  experience and a lot of fun.

I started making knives in about 83 but it was all stock removal and then send then in for H.T. .

Thanks to net I've found a lot of information on forging . Have to say that heat treating my own and learning to forge has brought out a new passion for knife making.

Not liking the toenail polish.......  . Guess I need something more blacksmity:lol:

I have some band mill blade thats from a sawmill. It's 15n20 and ,072  . If I stack a couple of pieces in between and I can 2300° it might look pretty good.
